JJ + Sarah wearing the Promise Heel in Champagne Velvet
How did you meet your partner? Tell us about your love story…
JJ and I met at a Christchurch bar, Baretta in December 2015. It was just before Christmas and he was on a night out with his brother and I was out with some girlfriends. I think neither of us thought it would be the night that we'd meet the person we end up marrying! JJ tapped me on the shoulder when I was on the dance floor and the rest is history. He is half Dutch and half Irish and was over in New Zealand from The Netherlands for his brothers wedding for the Summer. I think it was pretty evident early on that we wanted to be together. We spent the rest of the time he had left in New Zealand inseparable, followed by a year of long distance before JJ moved to New Zealand. People used to laugh at me because I walked around for the Summer saying 'when you know you know' but I guess it’s true!
Tell us about your wedding day, your vision and the style…
Our wedding day was magic. We currently live in The Netherlands so our main vision was for Summer vibes surrounded by family and friends after such a long time being away from them. We really wanted to spend as much time with our guests as possible so we had a first look and our photos before the ceremony and didn’t have a sit-down dinner to ensure that we could mingle with our guests. I love florals so tried to incorporate these as much as possible throughout the day. We gave our guests tulip bulbs as our wedding favours to represent the Dutch element and drunk gin made by our friends in the sunshine. It was the perfect, most relaxed, happy day ever. We both couldn’t stop smiling!
What Chaos & Harmony Shoes did you purchase for your wedding and why?
I purchased the Promise Heel in Velvet Champagne from an MIQ facility in New Zealand! I had initially thought that I would go with the blue but I am delighted I went with the Velvet Champagne. It is such a beautiful colour and worked so beautifully with the shade of my dress. I also love that the classic Eternal heel came in two heights. I went with the lower height (promise heel) for comfort as I am not the best at walking in heels and I am so glad I did. They are so elegant, I loved how when I walked, the shoes could be seen. In lots of the images we have back from the wedding they are peeping through and it makes me so glad that I bought shoes that I love.
Did the dress or shoes come first and how did you style them with the dress?
The dress came first and then the shoes fell into place beautifully! My dress was very simple and elegant and the shoes fitted with that style perfectly.
Did you buy the shoes with the intention to wear them again? If so, have you?
Yes.. that is why I went with the lower heel! I have already worn them the month after our wedding when I was a bridesmaid and plan to wear them to all the weddings we have been invited to this (European) Summer.
