How did you meet your partner? Tell us about your love story…
I met Leo in our first year of university. We were both living in the halls of residence at Waikato University, although in different blocks so I wasn’t introduced to him straight away. Throughout the year, we met and saw each other briefly and sporadically at parties. However, it wasn’t until later in the year that we began hanging out as we became part of the same friend group. I was drawn to him from the beginning because of his kind, relaxed and gentle nature (and of course his good looks), and he seemed to enjoy my silly sense of humour and positive outlook on life. In October 2016, near the end of the school year (and a few drunken parties later), it was settled that we both liked each other, and we became inseparable. Our relationship bloomed from there and now here we are married!
Tell us about your wedding day, your vision and the style…
Leo and I are both easy-going people with a shared value of minimalism, and we wanted our wedding to reflect that. We wanted to create an environment that was special and important, but not too formal so that everyone (including us) felt at ease. We aimed towards the less is more approach where possible, and had a backyard ceremony at my Grandparents’ house where some guests sat and some stood around watching the proceedings. The dinner was not a formal sit down, and instead was a buffet style. We didn’t have a lot of decoration since our ceremony location was so beautiful anyway, but we did go all out on the arch with flowers and greenery as this was the centrepiece for us. Our attire also helped to set the vibe for the day. Rather than wearing black, Leo wore a blue jacket which felt a little more casual and relaxed, while still being classy. My dress was also simple while elegant, and I wore flowers in my hair instead of a veil. Finally, we had the day reflect our personal food values, and had all food served vegan. Put all this together with the gorgeous water views of both venues, and the day was perfect!
What Chaos & Harmony Shoes did you purchase for your wedding and how did the shoes make you feel?
I wanted something that was simple, yet classic and elegant. I also wanted white shoes to match the dress, and a chunkier heel for both comfort and looks. I wasn’t sure what I was aiming for at first, and was hoping something would just jump out at me and I would know! I actually came across this shoe while scrolling facebook marketplace, and I knew instantly that these were the ones I wanted. I met the person who was selling them second-hand, and bought them straightaway. I didn’t try on any other shoes the whole time. I felt Classy, elegant and comfortable.
Did the suit or shoes come first and how did you style them with the dress?
I bought the dress first (another second-hand score frommarketplace). I wanted a simplistic look, and so my only otheraccessories were earrings and a necklace.
Did you buy the shoes with the intention to wear them again? If so, have you?
Yes definitely! I think the shoe could be worn to many different types of events and they could be dressed both up and down which makes them very versatile. The simple look and white colour is great for pairing with anything. I haven’t worn them again yet because I am currently overseas, but I will wear them once I’m back and have an event to go to!
