Steven & Kirsten wearing Eternal Powder Blue
How did you meet your partner? Tell us about your love story…
We met at a university house party in Geelong, Victoria in October 2014. We exchanged details and started chatting the very next day. Life kept us both very busy so we weren’t able to meet up again until a night out in February 2015 and the rest is history! Since then we’ve travelled the world, expanded our family with two spoodle pups and had many adventures together. We work incredibly well as a team and we’re constantly laughing at each other as well as with each other. Steven proposed during COVID lockdown in July 2021 when we were out for a run with the dogs. Although we had discussed getting married, the proposal itself was a huge surprise and a lovely personal moment just for the two of us. We then got to work planning our day straight away!
Tell us about your wedding day, your vision and the style…
We just wanted a big laidback party with lots of dancing! Our venue was amazing as we checked in on the Friday, the bridesmaids stayed with me in the bridal suite Friday night and then we stayed together from the Saturday until we checked out on the Monday. The property is stunning, so green and luscious so I did not feel the need to go overboard on decorations. I wanted a classic green and white feel with pops of lilac, hydrangeas and disco balls! The vibe we were going for was a modern, classic, garden party. We did a lot of things that were unique and personal to us. The bridesmaids and I started the day with a pilates session to help with some of the nervous energy and then the flowers started arriving. The bridesmaids each had a different coloured bouquet and mine was a mixture of them all. We had personalised handheld fans for everyone during the ceremony as it was 32 degrees, the bridal party took a limoncello shot as a vow to party before our bridesmaids and groomsmen sat in the front row to take in the ceremony like the rest of our guests. We had a petsitter so we could have our beautiful doggos Ollie & Frankie there too. We had an acoustic duo playing whilst I walked down the aisle and they kept the tunes going for drinks on the lawn before our DJ had everyone on the dance floor later. We had a cocktail reception with woodfired pizzas, a grazing table, a retro Mr Whippy ice cream van and 5 different ridiculously amazing cakes one of my bridesmaids baked for us. We organised an audio guest book which was hilarious to listen to in the weeks after the wedding, we arranged hangover kits to be handed out to everyone as they left and we had an afterparty at the hotel next door where the majority of the guests were staying. A highlight at that party was the late-night cheeseburger delivery from McDonalds.
What Chaos & Harmony Shoes did you purchase for your wedding and how did the shoes make you feel?
I purchased the Eternal heels in Powder Blue. I knew I wanted my shoes to be my ‘something blue’ and I scoured the internet for an extremely long time to find the perfect light blue shade! These were just right. I was also drawn to the solid heel as I was very much out of practice wearing heels during COVID!
Did the suit or shoes come first and how did you style them with the dress?
I ordered the shoes the exact day after I ordered my dress. I already knew I wanted them, and I was just waiting for them to be back in stock! I took photos with me so I could envision them with the dress whilst I was trying it on for the final time before ordering. The dress had a front split so the shoes could be easily seen. Because the dress had so much detail, the shoes really were my primary accessory. I kept my hair and jewellery quite plain as I really wanted the dress and shoes to be the main feature. I did have a chapel length veil to wear as well but I wasn’t co-operating on the day and we had to let that go!
Like Cinderella! They were the perfect pop of blue, poking out from under my dress. They were comfy and I felt confident walking all over the cobble stones and grass in them all day. I was walking myself down the aisle, so I knew I needed to feel like I wasn’t going to fall over as I was already so shaky from nerves! We took dancing lessons in the months leading up to the wedding so I got plenty of dance practice in as well.
Did you buy the shoes with the intention to wear them again? If so, have you?
Yes. I wasn’t planning on keeping everything associated with the wedding but I knew I wanted to keep the shoes so that I could wear them again on special occasions such as our anniversary. I’ve already worn them again to our friends’ wedding.
I loved my shoes so much when they arrived (and how comfy they were) that I also purchased the Chici heels in Snow Feather to wear at my Hens Party. They were the perfect ‘bridal’ addition to my outfit and I received so many compliments. I’m now just looking for an excuse to wear them again too!
